Born into a poor sharecropping family in Brownsville, Texas, Al lost his mother at the tender age of five. Raised by aunts, uncles, and family friends, Al dropped out of school after the eighth grade and joined the United States Army six days after his 16th birthday. He served his country for over 22 years as an elite commando soldier and Green Beret in the United States Army.

When I was asked to write about Al Gonzalez, I didn't hesitate to accept. The thoughts that made me pause briefly were: How can I concisely write about all of a man's great qualities?
But after reflecting for a moment on who Al represents, his character became very clear—who he has been and even the man he is becoming. Al is a man after God's own heart. Simply put, he is a man of God, refined in the crucible of life, always seeking to help others, always willing to serve, and always ready to glorify God in everything he does.
Like the vessel in the potter's hands, he has willingly allowed God to season and perfect him to do what he has been called to do: to help others through this life. When you talk to Al, or Al talks to you, you immediately sense the presence of someone who is wise in his counsel, who has allowed life's experiences to teach him what is most important, and you know he cares! He truly cares about you.
He has accomplished so much in this life, on this earth, yet he is incredibly humble. He could stand on the rooftops and shout about all that God has allowed him to achieve: warrior, motivational speaker, author, leader, and so on. But he doesn't. He is a humble man, and that's what I love about Al. Even though he has done all these things that would make most men arrogant and proud, he isn't. He sees himself simply as being obedient to God.
He has served our country heroically, he has served our industry with unwavering dedication, and he has loved his teams and his family as a servant leader should. I admire Al. I admire this man. It is an honor for me to call him a friend, a mentor, and a confidant.
As this world turns, it seems that each day there are fewer men who live for God, stand firm in their commitment to doing the right thing, and are pure from beginning to end. This is what it is; what you see is what you get, and what you get is an incredible man whom I would aspire to be. A man after God's own heart.

It is truly a great honor to share with you a few words about a great American, Al Gonzalez. He is a living example of what we in the United States know as a rags-to-riches story. From his extremely impoverished beginnings to the man he is today, Al has become a motivational speaker, author, and life and business coach. He is someone who has dedicated more than 35 years of his life to helping others.
His writing is truly something special; it changes lives. His speaking style is unlike any other.
